Chess Openings: Learn to Play the Vienna Game
There are many strong chess openings for white against e5 including the King’s Gambit, Danish Gambit, Giuoco Piano, Scotch Gambit, Scotch Gambit, Evan’s Gambit, Fried Liver Attack, Ponziani, Ruy Lopez, Italian Game, and more! However, in todays video, we will be covering the Vienna Game, one of the strongest chess openings ever developed. White plays Nc3, indirectly fighting for the center of the board, and looks to develop a Grand Prix attack against the enemy king while controlling the light squares. Very useful survey of the Vienna game with 3.g3. I used to think that this was a slow positional line, but this video shows it can be very aggressive and exciting. The fact that white can choose between flank attacks or central play gives the opening a lot of flexibility.

at the 0:50 mark of the video, after black plays 2. Nf6, would 3. f4 (immediate Vienna gambit) be a possibility? (rather than 3. g3)

Any lines I should study after black goes knight to C6 on move 3? I want to play bishop to C4 but that makes my pawn to G3 on move 3 look really stupid.

Thanks Solomon, very interesting. I have a simple question: On move 1 what happens if the opponent plays D5? Do we just take it and get on with the opening as usual with the fianchetto and NGE2 line?

This opnening is very flexible. You can used this line against Sicilian Player..

What about 2. knight C6 instead of knight F6? Very common at my level ~1500
Is it still a Vienna game?
I think most prefer the Vienna Gambit after knight F6. I'm lacking a clear cut plan against knight C6.
For a long time I was baffled at what the point of b4 (at 3:13) driving the Bishop to b6 was. I just realized it simply gains space on the queenside. Duh!
