Jonathan Schrantz teaches the Scotch Game, an underestimated opening that releases tension in the center early. Besides two notable games, the Goering gambit and the Dubois-Reti defence are also covered.
Magnus Carlsen vs Peter Leko, Pearl Spring Chess Tournament (2009): C45 Scotch game
Garry Kasparov vs Etienne Bacrot, Sarajevo (2000): C45 Scotch, Mieses variation
"Alwasys play queen d8..The knight on b5? Well.. its expedition was useless.." LMFAOOOOO
What is that flag next to Schrantz's name? I know this video was a long time ago so nobody will probably see this comment but if anybody does please let me know.
the ans after a careless move is nc6
As a new player at 1200 rating, everyone I face takes the knight on d4. It would be interesting to see some analysis on this line and how to take advantage of it as white, because the engine says it's wrong, but my queen gets chased around and I don't get to take advantage of the inaccuracy.
Move 4 for white: Qxd4 – the Botez gambit
The nakhmanson gambit
At 35:46 when black moves F5 can't white take it with his e5 pawn en passant and check the king at the same time? Would this line be bad or good?
Who else is here because of hikaru
that's what I usually play in my games
Ha I play this opening every white game in blitz and never even knew what it was called until now. Im a 1300 level player about 2k white games played. Whats funny is he's right it confuses the other players much of the time i would say. Many grind 30 seconds on it and grind the next couple moves to. I usually have a 1 minute lead after 3 or 4 moves and go into defense the rest of the game and win on time or by speeding them up I guess.
shades of finegold
Ate u allowed to castle? Thought king was in check already
I love playing the scotch game. After a cpl of tumblers – all the bad moves dont seem so bad… and my moves Arent as bad as when I play the 'vino' game, for example.
MY DI** IS THROBBING
Most interesting, thank you!
In 40:13, if you take the g6 pawn with the rook, rook takes back and then you take the f5 pawn with the bishop, forking king and rook and getting two pawns.
Since when does captain america teach chess
Schrantz ' manner of speaking makes me nervous. I don't know why.
Why doesn't he talk about the option with the knight trade at the start?
Chess is sometimes so challenging that I wish to change my hobby 😀
10:10 As White, I took the knight on D4, Black took back with his knight, I took back with the Queen, and then did not know what to do. I was stuck in the middle of the board with a Queen pointing at nothing and blocked by my own pawn on E4.
At the 6:42 th position of this video where white threats blacks queen with his bishop, there how about playing Nxd4 instead of N e7???please consider it
This video is unwatchable, all the water sipping and the throath coughs pfff
My favourite opening, thanx!
12:17 i almost died! he slid it in smooth, what a float what a goat

That scotch gambit line you can also enpassant to be an annoying opponent
It is true drinnk scotch and win
I 100% think that you are one of the best teachers there are on YouTube, no disrespect with what I say next… I just can't really take you clearing your throat after everything you say. =(
If it is a medical condition I wholeheartedly apologize in advanced.
LOVE the Scotch!
I typed scrot's game but still it came
I love ‘the ‘ scotch too but find it difficult to play serious and sober when using the scotch. I tend to get so pissed get checkmated instantly!
Anybody ever try the absolutely ridiculous Nakhmasson gambit?
Was en passant playable in the game which would be discovered check
Thanks for the masterpiece. Yet missed one amazing trap in the Scotch with the knight jumping to g5 and sacrificing itself on f7
18:00 Isnt that just the loss of a knight and bishop for a rook, mostly concidered a bad trade? Stockfish just says position is 0,0 after this exchange. Engine seems to like Nd2 first better.

What if at 13:55 Qd5 and if Pxc6 … Qxc5?
at 40:10 isn't the pawn on g6 hanging? if Rxg6 Rxg6 Bxf5+
The scotch is my favorite for white! Nirkowitz defence for black!
Tidak masuk akal ihh… Huhu.. Gak punya subscriber Ya!!
35:45 I might be wront but is taking "a passant" not an amazing move here. It gets a discovered attack on the king and if you defend with the horse the pawn takes it. If you block with the bishop you take thr horse with the other pawn.
